A New Baby Spence

Noah Joseph Spence was born this morning to Brad's brother, Dave, and wife, Elizabeth, at 9:35. He's 7lb. 3 oz. We look forward to meeting this little guy and properly welcoming our new little nephew/cousin.

For any of you disappointed that the "Baby Spence" was not an announcement from Brad and me...sorry. I have to keep my 'headlines' enticing to keep people coming back for more:)

Teenagers with Shovels (and other things)

The entrepreneurial teenagers have been out in full force this winter with offers of shoveling our driveway. We don't use their services but they certainly make a good bit of money on many in our neighborhood.

I was entertained for several minutes as I watched a group of 5 teenagers take on our neighbors driveway and in record time had their driveway and steps completely cleared. I was really impressed with their teamwork tactic until I saw fake testicles hanging from the hitch of their pick-up truck. Hmmm, not so impressed anymore.

Faithful Flowers

Brad surprised me with flowers today! I'm not much of a flower person so I rarely think about getting any. These however, were memorable because of the note. In his note Brad reaffirmed his love and faithfulness to me. This is especially significant due to the information we got today of a ministry family's marriage falling apart due to unfaithfulness. I'm praying for the hurting family and praising God for a godly and thoughtful husband. I love you Brad!
Brad gets bonus points for picking flowers that were used in our wedding - stargazer lilies.

Leaky Dishwasher

My leaky dishwasher is of the cute nature, namely Sadie.
Sadie loves to "wash dishes." She can spend 1/2 hour transferring water from bowls to cups to measuring spoons, all the while getting soaked and soaking the counter, cabinets and floor. It keeps her busy and it keeps that area extra clean.

The Toilet Table

Is the toilet seat ever an acceptable table? Although I wouldn't normally advise this, kids seem to provide many situations that cause me to bend what I would normally think is acceptable.

I had several things planned during Sadie's nap time today. Two of those things being exercise and a shower. Not in my plan was Sadie's desire to take an exceeding short nap. After informing Sadie that it was not time to get up I went downstairs to exercise. After a half hour and she still wasn't back asleep, I decided she could get up and join me in the bathroom while I took a shower. I've learned that you don't allow a 2 year-old have free reign of the bathroom unsupervised so I set up Sadie with a little snack on the toilet seat. I brought in her booster seat so she could sit and snack while enjoy the heat and steam.
I was considering making this a habit when she sweetly said "Here you go Mommy" and handed me my towel when I was all done.

Birthday Celebration

This evening was Sadie's birthday celebration. She had a star-shaped donut for a cake. The rest of us got our favorite donut also.
Sadie had fun blowing out her candles - and no, she didn't catch her sleeve on fire even though it looks that way in the picture.

Noelle wanted a picture with Sadie but Sadie didn't want to take the time to put down her donut

We got Sadie the "Elefun" game where an elephant shoots butterflies out of it's trunk and you try to catch them with little nets. Both of the girls loved it.

Happy Birthday Sadie!

Today is Sadie's 2nd birthday. Our baby is growing up.

We love her sweet personality and contagious smile. And who can resist squeezing her chubby little body? We're celebrating with gifts and donuts (in leu of cake) tomorrow since Brad is working this evening. I'll post those pictures later.

WELL spent 75 cents

I've been anxious to take advantage of the after Christmas sales and do a little shopping. Noelle and Sadie, however, are not good shoppers. Noelle begs to be in the cart and Sadie begs to be out of the cart. They both think they deserve a snack every 5 minutes for having to endure the torture.

I decided to pray about it - what an idea! During my quiet time this morning I had a revelation - I'm certain it was from God. I made a proposal to Noelle that I would pay her 75 cents to "babysit" Sadie in the store. Noelle lit up and was super excited about her big-girl responsibility. She got her backpack and filled it with activities for Sadie.

Noelle was amazing. While we were in Kohl's she helped Sadie play with a baby doll, read her a book, drew pictures for her on the Etch and Sketch and, with my permission, rewarded Sadie (and herself) with a package of Smarties candy.

I came out of the store with a bag of clothes, 2 happy kids, and my sanity.

I offered Noelle the choice of 3 quarters or dimes and nickels, also equaling 75 cents. She took the dimes and nickles:)

Math

Noelle looked at our digital thermometer and announced "it's 22 degrees." I didn't think she knew her double digit numbers so I asked her, "How do you know it's 22 degrees?" She said "The thermometer says 2 and 2."
I was amazed so I asked, "What's 3 and 3?" She quickly replied "6."

Hmmm...I guess she's right.

I'm Back

It's pretty sad that Christmas debilitates my blogging for 3 weeks, but what can I say? I decided I valued a clean house over a updated blog (this week anyway).

Since Christmas is long gone, I thought I'd highlight Noelle's birthday - December 30 - and a favorite Christmas activity.

Noelle is now 5 - can you believe it!? For her birthday we went bowling with some of the extended family, including her 2 girl cousins. Noelle had a great time and I'm pretty sure she scored higher them me. Maybe I should play with a with a bumper guard next time.

Cousins: Noelle, Kalysta, and Payton

Another highlight from our time with family was building and decorating gingerbread houses. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing just how much candy I could eat and not get sick.
I think Sadie and I tied for the "Most Most Sugar Consumed" award. We paid dearly for that on the 2 hour ride to our parent's home later that night.

Just how long can 2 overtired, over-stimulated, over-sugared kids scream?
I'm not sure. The car ride was over before we got to the end.
